Fill the washing machine compartments correctly
You are very proud of your first washing machine and now you want to do laundry. The laundry is in the machine, you have the detergent ready and want to add it. However, when you look at the various compartments, you may be concerned about which compartment you should put detergent and fabric softener in.
Symbols of the subjects simply explained
In each Washing machine There are three compartments for filling detergent and fabric softener, the names and the way of filling are basically the same.
- When you pull open the detergent drawer on your washing machine, you will see two compartments marked with a Roman I resp. II are marked. The compartment marked with the Roman numeral I generally contains the prewash detergent and the compartment marked with the numeral II contains the main detergent. If you have selected a program without prewash, simply leave compartment I empty.
- In addition to the compartments for the detergent, there is an extra compartment for care products such as fabric softener, fabric conditioner and starch. You can recognize this by the symbol with the flower. The "MAX" mark must not be exceeded with the care product. Make sure that you close the drawer carefully after filling it.
- You can use the detergent compartments for both powder and liquid detergent. However, the dosage of liquid detergent with a dosing ball works much better. Here you put the required amount of detergent in a dosing ball and pour it directly into the washing machine drum with the laundry.
Notes on the capacity of the washing machine and dosage
If you want your laundry to be really clean, you should pay attention to the maximum capacity of the drum and an exact dosage of the detergent. Garments in a stuffed washing machine wrinkle easily and may not get thoroughly cleaned. When filling, you can generally adhere to the following principles:

- If you have colored and whites or linen to wash clothes, fill the drum full without overloading it. For easy-care laundry, do not fill the washing machine more than halfway. No more than a third of the capacity is used for delicates and woollens.
- The correct dosage is just as important: the amount of detergent depends on the one hand on how dirty the laundry is, and on the other hand on the hardness of the tap water. If you are not sure what degree of hardness your water has, ask your local water company for this.
- Information on the exact dosage can be found on the packaging of the detergent. Do not put the washing powder into the compartments by eye, but use a measuring cup. Otherwise it can happen that the soapy water foams too much.
- Use a little less detergent than indicated if you only have a small amount of laundry and it is only lightly soiled.
