A guitar is tuned to the tuning E-A-D-G-H-E by default. The tuning thus covers a full octave with steps between the strings. The description "Dropped C" now only means that the top side (bass string) is tuned to the lower C instead of E and the other strings are adjusted accordingly.
- To tune the guitar to Dropped C, you need a C-G-C-F-A-D tuning. There are now other intervals between the strings here too that you need to pay attention to.
- The easiest way is to tune with the tuner, where you can simply enter the new tunings and tuning is done in 5 minutes. Even if you are tuning by ear, you should check your new Dropped-C tuning with a tuner.
- If you prefer to tune by ear, the intervals here are particularly important.
- It starts with the top bass side, which is tuned from E to the lower C, i.e. 4 interval steps or semitones lower (on the guitar simply 4 frets lower).
- Tune the A string 2 intervals lower to G. The D string is now also tuned to C 2 intervals lower.
- With the G-string it is again 2 intervals lower on F. The B-string is now tuned to A 3 intervals lower.
- And finally the high E string is tuned 2 intervals to the D below.

With this tuning it may be necessary to change the strings. Since the tuning is set quite low, sides that are too thin on the deep E side may no longer hold enough tension and should be replaced by thicker strings.
