What you need:

  • Electric soldering iron
  • Lot
  • cleaning supplies
  • Flux
  • coarse sandpaper

If you own a house and the gutter is defective, you can repair it yourself. If the gutter is to be properly sealed again and to last for a long time, you should consider a few things. You can insert a new piece on the defective track or you can repair the leak with an electric soldering iron.

A new piece of gutter needs to be installed properly

  1. If you want to insert a completely new piece of gutter, you should make sure that the The overlap of the two ends is not more than 15 mm and the gap between them is not more than 0.8 mm amounts to. Otherwise the solder cannot close the gap.
  2. The first thing you need to do is properly clean the ends of the old gutter with a suitable detergent and let it dry. When the material is really dry, the areas to be soldered are treated with coarse sandpaper.
  3. Now coat the ends that are to be soldered with the flux and hold the preheated electric soldering iron and the solder on the point to be soldered. When the solder is hot enough, it drips off the electric soldering iron and flows into the gap between the two ends of the gutter. In this way they are connected to each other.
  4. You have to repeat this procedure until the entire gutter gap is closed with solder. Let the solder joint cool down. Then you can sand them smooth with the sandpaper.
  5. Soldering jewelry - this is how it works with silver chains

It's annoying when jewelry breaks, even if it's "only" about right ...

You can solder rust spots with the electric soldering iron

  • You can also close other gutter connections in this way. The same applies to small rust holes, which you can also solder with the electric soldering iron. This is an easy way to get the gutter tight again.
  • The use of the electric soldering iron is not recommended for larger holes. You should proceed as described in point 1 and replace the relevant piece of the gutter.

When soldering, always ensure that you have a secure footing and it is best to use an all-purpose ladder that you can fold down as a scaffolding. Never stand on a high ladder leaning against the wall of a house. With the hot soldering iron in hand, you can seriously injure yourself if you are unsteady.
