Christmas bonus from the job center?
Unfortunately, you will hardly get any Christmas bonus from the job center. The benefits of the so-called ALG II, i.e. the basic security for job seekers, which are paid according to the Social Code (SGB) II, are rather tight.
Long-term unemployed or so-called In addition to his professional income, "Aufstocker" also receives benefits from the job center and usually has to turn every penny twice. In addition to the standard benefits, there is also the option of obtaining a loan from the job center.
No Christmas bonus from the job center
- You will hardly get a Christmas bonus in the form of a one-off special payment shortly before Christmas from the job center. But there is the possibility of a loan in accordance with an urgent and unavoidable need. To get § 42a SGB II.
- Such a loan can be granted if otherwise the costs for a rent deposit that is necessary in order to be able to move into a suitable apartment, cf. § 22 para. 6 SGB II.
- For a recipient of ALG II, the repayment of such a loan can of course be a problem, since the basic security benefits usually only cover the subsistence level.
- According to a decision of the Federal Social Court on March 22nd, 2012 (Az. B 4 AS 26/10 R), a beneficiary did not have to repay the rental deposit loan from the standard benefit. However, this decision related to the repayment installments that had to be paid in 2008.
- Even if this decision is quoted a lot, it should be noted that since April 1st, 2011 the regulation of § 42a Para. 2 in SGB II. According to this, repayment claims from loans can be repaid "by monthly offsetting of 10 percent", with the 10 percent extending to the relevant standard requirement.

Repayment of ALG II benefits
- Not only is there no Christmas bonus from the job center, but it can also be paid to you as a so-called "Top-ups" tend to mean that you have to repay ALG II benefits already received from your employer when receiving Christmas bonuses. this will be reduced by the corresponding amount received from the employer.
- The rhetorical reflex that is often encountered that the job center then "takes something away" completely ignores the point. In this case, your own income reduces your own need, and therefore the payment by the job center is reduced accordingly.
The ALG II benefits are limited. Not only the unemployed, but also more and more low-wage earners are dependent on additional state aid.
