The siphon on the shower is quite tricky because it has a tight curve and hairs often slip into the siphon. If it is blocked, it becomes difficult.

What you need:

  • wire
  • Enzymatic drain cleaners
  • screwdriver
  • Suction bell
  • Compressed air
  • spiral

You must not clean the siphon in this way

  • The main cause of a clogging siphon on the shower is hair. With drain cleaners, hair clump together to form a solid structure that is deposited on the pipe, so you should never use these cleaners on showers or bathtubs.
  • Showers are often built in such a way that you cannot reach the siphon from the outside without causing major damage. Therefore, never unscrew the sieve from the Drain out if you are not sure whether the siphon cannot come loose from the shower tray.

Help when the shower drain is clogged

Act immediately if you notice that the water in the shower is not draining well, do not wait until everything is clogged and the water stops draining.

  1. Carefully pull any hair you can grasp from the colander in the drain. In this way, you usually remove hair that is stuck underneath, which only does not slip through the siphon because it has got caught on hair that has got stuck in the sieve.
  2. If there is still water in the shower, try to free the siphon at least a little with a wire. If that doesn't work, scoop out the water. If you have a wet vacuum, do it with it. Sucking down the drain can help you get rid of the blockage.
  3. Clean the drain with a spiral - this is how it works

If the drain is clogged, there are several ways to clean it. With …

  4. Generously add a biological drain cleaning agent to the drain and add warm water. These drain cleaners contain bacteria and enzymes that can also break down hair and debris. Bacteria need warmth. Caution: The water must not be too hot, otherwise you will kill the helpers. You will have to wait at least 10 hours for an effect to appear because the processes take more time than the chemical ones. So don't get impatient.
  5. If that didn't help, try to remove something from the shower siphon with a wire that you have bent into a hook. Use a suction cup or compressed air device to clean drains. You have to move the plug in the siphon.
  6. Take a close look at the construction of the drain. If there is a screw in the middle, it may be that it supports the siphon. Carefully loosen the screw and check whether the siphon can be moved with the sieve. Then do not unscrew the screw any further.
  7. Try to loop the counterpart into which the screw engages with a wire in order to secure that the siphon cannot fall off. If you are not sure that the siphon will not come loose, then only proceed if you know another way to get the siphon.

Now you can unscrew the strainer and use a spiral to clean the shower siphon.

Prevention of clogging of the siphon in showers

  • Place an additional loose sieve over the screwed-on sieve. This will prevent too much hair from getting into the siphon.
  • After every shower, pull everything you can from the strainer. Never purposely flush anything down the shower drain or empty buckets of cleaning water in the shower.
  • Put biological drain cleaner in the shower siphon once a month.
