Build a chicken grill for yourself at home
A chicken grill can also be useful at home. In order to be able to grill a chicken whole, a wire rack is not very suitable. But instead of the grate, you can use a simple skewer that you can build yourself without much effort.
What you need:
- Bock in the dimensions of the grate, adjustable in height
- Stainless steel round steel for the skewer
- Wiper motor
- 12V DC voltage source
- Speed controller
- Aluminum sheet
Build a made-to-measure chicken grill
In order to be able to continue using the existing grill, the rack for the skewer should fit exactly into the holder for the grate.
- You can of course use a metal profile from which you can build an adjustable tripod for each side. The two parts must then be connected with bars.
- An alternative would be to use aluminum sheet, which is cut to the right shape. You can leave the connecting webs so wide that they act like a funnel that focuses the heat upwards. The sheet metal is joined with rivets, then you do not need any special welding equipment.
When you can't weld at home
- A stainless steel rod with welded-on prongs is highly recommended as a skewer. Hardly any do-it-yourselfer has the opportunity to weld stainless steel at home. Therefore, you should commission this part from a professional. Before doing this, think about how the chicken grill should be powered.
- The ideal solution would be direct drive from the gear shaft of a windshield wiper motor. A disc with a hole into which a crank pin on the wiper motor engages can serve as a driver. The motor is held by a bracket on the front side, which can easily be screwed on.
- A power source of 12V direct current is required for this arrangement. As an alternative to the car battery, a power supply unit with the right design is available at home. It can sit directly on the engine, which saves you unnecessary cables. Pay attention to sufficient power and the cable routing on the hot material.
- If you would now like to control the speed of your chicken grill steplessly, a rheostat can be interposed or you can use a step switch like on a car. A height adjustment for the whole construction allows the grilling of chickens of different sizes.
