A crossbow can be a dangerous weapon if it is built strong enough. This should be pointed out very clearly. It therefore does not belong in the unsupervised hands of children and must be used with caution. As a piece of sports equipment, however, it can provide exercise with a lot of fun.

This is how you build a crossbow

Obtaining the right material to build a crossbow should be the biggest hurdle for the do-it-yourselfer.

  • It is less about the shaft and more about the spring clip and the slide for the arrows. If you were able to procure such utensils, manual skills and inventiveness are required if the result is really to be useful. These instructions can only make suggestions.
  • The firing force is created by the pretensioning of the spring clip. The tighter the spring, the more forcefully the arrow is shot. Tensioning sets the limits for the spring force. As soon as it becomes a problem to pull the tendon with simple tools to the trigger, you have a spring clip that is too strong.

The instructions for building the crossbow

  1. The basic component of a crossbow is the butt or shaft. It looks like the butts on rifles and helps the shooter to focus on the target when the crossbow is hammered on the shoulder. The cob is best built from a branch or root that has grown cheaply, which is chopped into shape with an ax and then planed and carved.
  2. The slide rail should be straight and smooth. It is let into the top of the piston, so that it is only slightly above the wood protrudes. A copper pipe can be sawn in the middle for this purpose. Plastering The edges and corners to avoid injuries. Countersink the fastening screws so that the arrows are not slowed down.
  3. Build a cat house - step by step

  4. There must be space for the spring clip at the front tip. It can be securely attached to the shaft with two metal brackets. To drill screw holes in spring steel, however, you need special metal drills that can do that too. If necessary, get help from a professional workshop.
  5. You will then need eyelets at the ends of the spring clip to attach the string. This can be made from wire rope (approx. 3 mm), which is held in place with rope clips. The spring clip sits directly under the slide rail, so the wire rope is pulled down slightly. It's not supposed to drag on the shaft.
  6. The trigger must consist of a lever made of flat iron. It is inserted into the center of the butt with the help of a drill and chisel and supported with a steel pin so that it folds away when the crossbow is fired. At the top the wire rope can be hooked into a small nose and at the bottom you have to attach the trigger in a suitable way so that the tensioned rope is securely held.
  7. With a small tension spring you ensure that the trigger is always engaged when the rope is tensioned. For tensioning u. U. a pulling device such as a lever is necessary if the tension of the spring clip exceeds the muscle strength. If the guide has helped you a little, then it serves its purpose.

When using it, make sure that your sports equipment is only fired on the terrain intended for it. In public shooting competitions, such as the popular "eagle shooting", the relevant terrain must be cordoned off to protect against accidents.
