Turn off the microphone on the Mac

1. Open the System Preferences window on your Mac using the gear icon provided for this purpose.
2. If this symbol is not on your desktop, use the spotlight function.
3. Click on the spotlight function in the upper right, which is represented by a small magnifying glass.
4. Then an input field opens in which you type in the word "System Settings" and confirm with Enter.
5. When the window for the system settings has opened, select the symbol for the "sound" (a loudspeaker on the far right) in the second row under the heading "Hardware".

6. In the upper middle of this newly opened window, select the "Input" field, which is located on the far right next to "Sound Effects" and "Output". Then three different volume controls appear within this window, the first of which represents the "input volume".
7. Slide this slider all the way to the left to prevent your Mac microphone from picking up and transmitting sound. This means that your internal Mac microphone is switched off.
8. As a check, you can check whether the input level deflects when you generate a noise.
9. If it does this, the slider is not yet completely set to zero and you have to move it to the left again to be able to switch off the microphone.
