Prepare fonts for Photoshop CS5

Photoshop In addition to the fonts in the program folder, CS5 also uses the in Windows installed fonts. In order to be able to insert a new font for Photoshop, it is sufficient to install the new font in Windows.

  • To do this, you first need to have the new font on your computer. You should therefore download the desired font in ttf format from the Internet. Either search for the font using a search engine or use a website with free fonts such as Fonts-fonts.de orĀ Searchfreefonts.com.
  • Often the fonts are saved in a zip file. So before you can access the font you need to unzip the zip file.
  • To do this, right-click on the zip file and then click either on "Extract here" or "Extract file". The zip file will then be extracted and you will now have easy access to the font you want.

Insert new fonts

Once you have the font you want in ttf format on your computer you can simply copy them to the Windows Fonts folder on all Windows computers and thus make them available for Photoshop CS5.

The fonts folder contains all the fonts that are installed on your computer and therefore all of themĀ graphic- and word processing programs can be used.

  1. To do this, open your Windows Explorer with the key combination Windows + E and go to the folder in which the new font is located.
  2. Right click on it and then click on "Copy" or select the font and press the key combination Ctrl + C.
  3. Now go to the Windows fonts folder under C: \ Windows \ Fonts.
  4. You will now see all the fonts that have been installed on your computer so far. Now right-click in this folder and then click on "Paste" or use the key combination Ctrl + V.

The new font will be copied and installed so that you can access it in Photoshop.

Alternative installation options for new fonts

You can depending on your operating system install the new font elsewhere.

  • If you are Windows 7 all you need to do is right-click the font and then click "Install". The font is then automatically copied to the Windows fonts folder and thereby installed.
  • If you are using an older Windows version, you can also install new fonts via the control panel. First click on "Start" and "Control Panel", then on "Appearance and Personalization" and finally on "Fonts".
  • On the File menu, click Install New Font and go to the folder where the new font is located.
  • Click on the font and then either on "Install" or use the option "Copy Fonts" and then click on "OK". This also copies and installs the font in the Windows Fonts folder.
