How to design troubleshooting screens with the GIMP

1. Open the free photo editor GIMP.
2. Then go to "File" in the menu bar and then select "Open".
3. Particularly detailed images are suitable for creating troubleshooting images pictures. Now select any picture.
4. Then copy the picture by clicking "Edit" and then "Copy".
5. Open a new file. To do this, go to "File" and then to "New". Select the image size so that your previously opened image fits twice next to each other on the sheet / drawing layer.

6. Now create a new layer for the original image and name the layer, for example, "Image 1". To create a new layer, please click in the top menu bar on "Layer" and then on "New Layer". For example, in the Layer Name box, type Image 1 and then click OK.

7. Now paste the picture you copied before into the layer named "Picture 1". To do this, go to "Edit" and then to "Paste".
8. Press the "M" key on your keyboardto move the image to a desired location on the background layer.
9. Then anchor the "floating selection" to the plane. To do this, go to "Layer" and then to "Anchor Layer".
10. Now repeat the same with another layer, for example "Image 2", which you position directly next to the first image.
11. In order to design troubleshooting screens with GIMP, a third level is now created, for example with the name "Error".
12. In this third level you can, for example, from others photos Cut out or copy out parts and copy them into this layer as an error via layer "Image 2". The parts should ideally be tiny and noticeable - done!

You can also use the GIMP to design troubleshooting images a little differently. You can, for example, directly paint over something in the error image or even touch it up.
