Make beautiful nutcrackers yourself

How to make a beautiful nutcracker

1. In most functional nutcrackers, the mechanism for cracking the nuts consists of integrated tongs. A very effective alternative are screw threads wood. However, it may be less decorative to build a screw thread into a beautiful nutcracker, it would then be advisable to integrate the handle into the design of the nutcracker.
2. The head and neck of your nutcracker should be made from one piece if possible, so that the nutcracker is as stable as possible even when cracking nuts. Bring an approx. 2 cm wide and cuboid vertical shaft into the body, in which the movable lever arm of the wooden tongs can hang. The pliers head of this lever arm forms its lower jaw on the front of the nutcracker. For the axis of the movable lever arm, drill a round hole through the pliers and body of the nutcracker, large enough for a wooden axis at least 5 mm thick.

3. For the legs, which should have a diameter of at least 2 cm, cut approx. 1.5 cm deep, precisely fitting holes in the body, into which you fit the legs and glue them thoroughly. Fix the legs in a stable manner by letting them in, gluing them and fixing them from below with spax screws to a 2 cm thick wooden base with a min. 12 cm in diameter. Tape the bottom of the foot resp. the base plate cleanly with feltto protect the contact surfaces.
4. Make the arms, feet and other body parts of your beautiful nutcracker out of cut round wood.
5. You can use parts of fur or other suitable materials as hair and beard.
