Convert XCF files - this is how it works

XCF files come from the GIMP program. This free program is for editing Image files and is distributed with the commercially Photoshop comparable from Adobe. Most of the time, GIMP is not yet installed on your computer, so the instructions also include the download and installation.

  1. Follow the link here to GIMP homepage.
  2. In the upper right corner of the screen you must then click on the link with "Downloads".
  3. On the next page you have to click on the link “Download GIMP 2.6.11” (this is currently the latest version and can change accordingly).
  4. You will then be redirected to a new website from which the download should start automatically. If this is not the case, you can start the download yourself via “direct link”.

  5. Now you should “save the file”, run it and finally install it. Once the program is installed, you need to open it.
  6. Then you have to open the file under "Open ..." on the "File" tab at the top left
  7. With that done, you'll need to save the file again. It is important that you select "Save as ..." under the "File" tab.
  8. In the new window you can change the file name and the storage location. Here you have to delete the file extension (.xcf) and enter .jpg for it or select the appropriate file format (JPEG image) under the heading "File type: After extension".
  9. Finally, you have to click on the "Save" button.
  10. In the next window you can determine the quality (and the associated file size) and then just click on “Save” to convert the image file from XCF to JPG.
