Make an animated GIF

With "imgflip"in a few minutes from a Video create a moving GIF. The video can be on your hard disk stored or available on the Internet. The tool is very easy to use. There is no need to register or download a program.

  1. Go to impgif and click "Upload Video". Select the video you want to create a GIF from. The upload begins as soon as you click "Open". Depending on the size of the video, it will now take some time for all data to be uploaded. Once the process is over, you will see the first image of your video on the right side of the webpage. To the left of it are various tools for editing the film.
  2. Above you can see two triangles that can be moved along a bar. With the green symbol you determine with which image of the video the GIF should begin, with the orange one you determine which one it ends with. This also automatically determines the length of the GIF. This must not be longer than ten seconds.
  3. Pay attention to the field that says FPS. It shows you how many frames per second the GIF will be broken down into. The longer the selected sequence, the fewer frames are possible. The fewer frames used, the more choppy the playback. The FPS field has a green background if smooth playback is possible. Choose a length where the field is green.
  4. Under "Width" you can select the size of the picture. If you want to create an avatar, go for 100px. It's better to choose a small size so that the GIF doesn't take up too much space.
  5. Open animated GIFs - it's easy

You can find animated GIF files all over the Internet. You can use these little ...

  6. Click on "Private" and then on "Generate GIF". The tool creates an animated GIF that you load onto your computer. If you want to create the GIF on the web first, select "This image is NSFW". You can view it via a link or download it later.

Edit sequences from the video

The tool offers various options to edit the selected sequence that you can convert to GIF. Learn more about these features below.

  • Directly below the line in which you set the size, there is a button "Add text to GIF". You can add a text via this. This can be seen later in the animated picture. You can color the text in different colors so that it stands out against the background.
  • Next to this button is the "Crop GIF" field. Click on it if you want to cut out part of the image. A frame is created in the preview image, which you can align as you wish.
  • To the right is the entry "Reverse GIF". This gives you the option of running your little GIF film backwards. All you have to do is put a tick in front of the entry.
  • You can find more editing options by clicking on "more options". This entry is to the right of the "Reverse GIF" field.
  • Now you can use the slider to set the number of frames, the image size and the speed. Please note that this changes the storage space required for the image. This is displayed to you at the bottom left, above the line where you can enter the title of the image.
  • Under the sliders it says "Play Count". Enter a zero if the GIF should run as an endless loop, or the number of repetitions you want.
  • Below you will see further entries. Put a checkmark in front of it if you want the function. You can activate one or more functions. "Forverse" means that the sequence runs alternately forwards and backwards. "Flip Vertically" and "Flip Horizontally" flips the image vertically or horizontally. "Black and white only" creates a black and white image and "Disable Dithering" reduces the file size because fewer colors are used.
  • With "Rotate" you can rotate your GIF by 90 °, 180 ° or 270 °.

With these functions, you can make very different GIFs out of a video. Use the opportunity to create your own avatar or funny pictures for social platforms.

  • The tool Gifforum offers similar functions as imgflip, the operation is similar. This program is also only suitable for editing videos that are available on the network. However, these can also be found on other platforms; it does not have to be available on the Internet via YouTube.
