• Usually the relationship between tenant and landlord is not that good. Too often there are points of contention and friction. However, if you get on very well with your landlord, there is no reason not to let him feel this by giving him a small Christmas present, for example.
• Another reason to thank the landlord is when they have made an effort to repair something on the house or in your apartment. Much of the work is in the rental contract regulated and so it would be an exaggeration to thank him for changing a lightbulb in the stairwell. • If your landlord is a woman, flowers are a good present. That does not mean that all women would be happy about flowers, but at least it corresponds to social convention and says that you are grateful for something.

Your landlord will also be delighted with a basket of collected mushrooms or cherries. Such gifts are personal because they come from you, but also leave your landlord his or her privacy.
