  • If you send a registered mail (whether to a normal or a P.O. Box address), you can be sure that the shipment will actually reach the recipient. You will receive a confirmation of receipt of the shipment via shipment tracking or return receipt.
  • Depending on the customer's wishes, a registered letter will only be sent to the addressee personally or delivered to the spouse or to a person authorized by them.
  • When you hand in your registered letter at the post office, you will receive a posting receipt, on which, among other things, the date of posting is noted and which serves as evidence for you.

  • Some mail carriers also accept shipments, in which case you can of course also send your registered mail directly to the mail carrier.
  • All types of registered mail can also be sent to post office boxes. If necessary, a message will be stored in the recipient's mailbox and the corresponding registered letter will be handed over personally at the counter.

Variants of the registered letter

  • The so-called "return receipt" is an additional service. You will be informed by post that the handover has taken place. The original signature of the recipient is included on the return receipt.
  • The so-called "registered mail by hand" is handed over personally. The shipment can be traced in the online status, but no return receipt will be sent.
  • The "registered letter" is not handed over personally, but you can see when the officer has put the letter in the mailbox or the addressee's mailbox throws.

If a registered mail is lost, Deutsche Post is liable for a maximum of 25 euros for the loss.
