• AAC and MP3 are both popular audio formats. MP3 is the king of compatibility, AAC was made by Apple introduced and has since dominated all Apple mobile devices. Even those from the iTunes Pieces of music purchased in the Store are available as AAC files.

• If you want to convert existing AAC songs to MP3s in iTunes on Mac, you need to activate the corresponding converter first. You can find this in the settings on the "General" tab under "Import settings". Then select the MP3 encoder under "Import with:".
