Convert PNG file to ICO
- Start Photoshop CS5.
- Open the PNG file that you want to use.
- ICO files must be square. To do this, click on the cropping tool on the left. You can also press the C key.
- Hold down the Shift key.
- Drag with the mouse a frame over the PNG file.
- Move, enlarge or reduce the frame until you have selected the image area that you want to use for your ICO.
- Double click in the frame.
- Click on Image.
- Click Image Size.
- Make sure that the chain symbol appears on the right.
- Select the file size you want. For Windows Vista a size of up to 256x256 pixels is possible. Older Windows versions only support ICO up to 32x32 pixels. For a favicon, choose the size 16x16 pixels.
- Click OK".
- Click on "File".
- Click on Save As".
- Select "ICO" under Format.
- Click on "Save".
