Differences between export and pils

  • Export and Pils both belong to the bottom-fermented beer types, but are still fundamentally different.
  • Export beer is a full beer with an original gravity of approx. 12-14%. The Pils, on the other hand, is a lager with an original wort of 12.5%.
  • The alcohol content of Export is mostly a little more than 5% vol and in contrast to this, the Pils usually has fewer "revolutions".
  • Pils beer is a light one beer. It is only available as a "cool blonde". On the contrary, you get the export both light and dark.
  • The Pils was first served in the Czech city of Pilsen and was first enjoyed in Prussia before it spread to the rest of Germany. Export, on the other hand, made the difference in that, as the name suggests, it is exported and widely drunk.

How to explain it to pub friends

  1. Meet everyone in your favorite pub and order a delicious pilsner, export or other drink before you start explaining the difference to your friends.
  2. Toast everyone with a nice toast. And now you start with your little lecture that will provide information about the world of beers.
  3. Place a pilsner on your right and an export on your left.
  4. First of all, talk about the alcohol content of both types of beer. Explain that pilsner beer contains significantly less alcohol than export.
  5. Now go into more detail about the color. "Advertise" the golden color of the Pilsen beer and also describe that an export beer can have many shades and that it can vary from gold money to hazelnut brown.
  6. Perhaps you will now tell us something about the origin. Maybe combine it with a little debauchery into the history of Prussia when you go into the Pils.
  7. Finally, you can find out the difference together with a taste test. Take each a strong sip from the Pilsner glass and then from the export glass and give your marks. The name drinking game takes on a whole new meaning.
