Actually, there is no big secret behind an HDMI connector and its assignment. Nevertheless, from time to time there are problems with the assignment of the HDMI connector.

HDMI has become indispensable.
HDMI has become indispensable.

Assignment of the HDMI connector

  • Problems with the assignment of the HDMI connector can arise, especially in connection with HDCP. This can manifest itself in picture dropouts or picture disturbances. In addition, there may be problems establishing the connection, sometimes it is slow or does not work at all.
  • HDMI and DVI usually get along well, because HDMI is downward compatible with DVI. This means that there are usually no connection problems. If there are severe compatibility problems, it can also happen that you receive no sound at all.

What you can do

  • In order to avoid occupancy problems, you should find out in the shop whether the devices match. Otherwise you can try the cable change. In the event of problems, you should always first check and plug in and unplug all plugs. Take your time, always wait a moment and try wiggling the plug back and forth. If the plug sits loosely and wobbles back and forth, this is usually due to an inferior HDMI point and the reason for transmission problems.
  • By the way, when you buy a new cable, you don't have to go for the expensive products. Even with 10 meter long cables, the quality difference in the picture was almost impossible to see in comparative tests between cheap and expensive cables. Gold-plated interfaces are also frills in this area.
  • Adapters can also be the reason for sticking points. Avoid adapters whenever possible. Devices with HDMI work best with pure HDMI cables. Angle adapters or so-called HDMI couplings are also more or less bells and whistles. If possible, do not mix different adapters from different manufacturers.
  • Connect the iPad via DVI - this is how it works

There is no direct option for the iPad to establish a video connection via DVI ...

  • Mechanical HDMI or DVI distributors are only recommended for shorter cable lengths. Otherwise, it is better to use electronic switches from a length of around 5 meters.
