Use Ethernet over a telephone cable
Under certain conditions it is also possible to wire an Ethernet using a four-wire telephone cable. You can either buy the appropriate adapter or even use the cable directly for it.
Building a network using a telephone cable - how can this work?
A network is set up with appropriate cables that have been specially manufactured for this purpose. Under certain conditions, however, it is also possible, for example, to "abuse" telephone cables for this purpose.
- A network cable usually has eight wires. However, these are not always required in full. In a network with 10 resp. 100 Mbit only four of the wires contained in the network cable are used for data transmission.
- Ordinary telephone cables also usually have this number of cores. Therefore this can also be used for these network connections.
- However, it should also be noted here that the effective speed does not necessarily reach that which is achieved when using Ethernet cables.
- Furthermore, special adapters are also available in the trade, through which it is possible to use a conventional two-wire cable to use for a network connection.

Use the Ethernet over "normal" cables for the phone
- You can use a telephone cable with four wires for an Ethernet connection by connecting the four wires of the cable at each end to terminals 1, 2, 3 and 6 of the network socket. However, you should note that the speed can sometimes be significantly below that which can be achieved with a network cable.
- In addition, there are corresponding adapter which even a two-wire telephone cable can be used for this connection. A speed of at least 192 Mbit should be achieved here.
