Quer-durch-Deutschland-Ticket: How to travel cheaply from north to south Germany
In the past, you could only travel across Germany on weekends with a single ticket. Now the railway also has an offer for everyone who is on the go on weekdays.
Anyone who spontaneously needs a cheap ticket for the train on weekdays with which they can get across Germany can drive, the "Quer-durch-Land-Ticket" is well advised. For a surcharge, up to five people can travel on the ticket, almost like a weekend ticket.
The cross-country ticket
- With this offer you can make as many journeys as you like on regional trains from 9 a.m. on weekdays and from midnight on public holidays. Of course, you can only use the second class. The ticket is valid until 3 a.m. the following day.
- So the conditions are very similar to those of a weekend ticket. It is usually possible to drive across Germany once within a day and to reach any desired destination within the period of validity.
- The price for one person is 42 euros. However, you can take up to four passengers with you. For each additional person the ticket price increases by 6 euros. The maximum price is therefore 66 euros for five people.
- Don't be confused by the fact that the route Munich-Mannheim is on the ticket. This has organizational reasons and does not limit the validity.
- At the weekend, the cheapest weekend ticket is the cheapest way to travel across Germany. It is valid for one day from midnight and costs 39 euros. Five people can travel together on the ticket.
