Timers are used to regulate power supplies without having to pull the plug. This is e.g. B. cheap for fairy lights if you want them not to glow at night. You can set mechanical timers using buttons and levers.

Set the power supply phases correctly

A mechanical timer consists of a plug, a socket and a wheel with small teeth.

  1. You can push in or pull out the teeth of the timer. First, press down all of the teeth.
  2. On the wheel you can see that a time belongs to each tooth.
  3. Pull up the teeth that you want the timer to stop supplying power to. In a string of lights z. B. it makes sense to pull out the teeth between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. so that the chain does not glow.

Set mechanical timer

  • You must set it so that the mechanical timer can also supply power at the time you want.
  • To do this, turn the wheel clockwise until the current time is where a small arrow is shown.
  • Now you can plug the timer into a free socket. For example, plug your fairy lights into the socket of the mechanical timer.
  • If necessary, you can readjust the times or the power supply phases.
  • Then turn on the mechanical timer if it has an on / off switch. So it will let electricity through at your preset times.
