Weight of a beer crate
If you ask about the weight of a beer crate, it must be clarified beforehand whether it is full bottles, so-called full bottles, or empties. In addition, the size of the bottles plays a not insignificant role in determining the weight.
You may find yourself in good company knowing how many bottles there are beer are in a crate, but you don't know the weight of the crate of beer. There are several ways to find out. You can take a set of scales and just weigh the box - or you can do the math.
Find out the weight of the beer crate
- A standard beverage crate for beer bottles differs only slightly in weight. A crate for 24 bottles of beer weighs around 2200 g, i.e. 2.2 kg.
- However, the weights of the empty beer bottles differ depending on the size. A 0.33 liter bottle weighs on average 310 g. With a full bottle including a crown cap, you get 640 g.
- Fill the beer crate with 24 empty bottles, so it should be 7440 g weight of glass plus 2200 g weight of the plastic crate. This results in a total weight of a beer crate with 24 empty 0.33 bottles of 9660 grams, i.e. 9.66 kg.
- However, if the crate is filled with full bottles, the bottles alone weigh 15,360 g, i.e. 15.36 kg. Together with the box, you have a total weight of 17560 g, 17.56 kg.

Not all beverage crates are created equal
- Since many beverage manufacturers now offer different crate sizes for marketing purposes, such as an 11-bottle crate, you cannot generalize the weight of a beer crate. Because when empty, these crates weigh a little differently than standard beverage crates.
- The beer manufacturers also try time and again to fill their drinks in PET bottles. Thus, the weight already differs here as well.
- Likewise have water- or fruit juice bottles a different weight. On the other hand, you can neglect the weight of the crown corks or screw caps in most cases, as these are rarely more than 50 g even with 24 bottles.
