Painting the loudspeaker housing made of wood

Most loudspeaker enclosures today are made of plastic. Nevertheless, there are still some from the higher price segment that are also made of wood in a somewhat elaborate manner. With such speakers it would of course be a shame if they were disposed of if they were damaged or scratched.

Of course, it makes sense to repaint such loudspeaker housings. Everyone can imagine that this involves some work. However, if you take the time to do this, your work will be worth it and you will be won over by the result.

Painting loudspeaker enclosures made of wood is worthwhile

If you have built speaker enclosures yourself and want to paint them, the work is the same, as if you were only restoring it, i.e. repainting it after a few years due to damage want. The following is a description of the work after slight damage:

  1. The work is of course made much easier if such loudspeaker housings are not glued, but screwed. However, this is used for those made from real life wood in advance.
  2. Here you have to screw on the loudspeaker housing first. You should then carefully dismantle the loudspeakers, because an empty housing is of course easier to work on.
  3. If there are slight scratches, use fine sandpaper to sand down the case. In places where the grinding machine cannot be used, you have to do this by hand.
  4. Paint over wooden furniture

A fresh coat of paint quickly gives old furniture a new shine. That …

  5. Of course, this work becomes very difficult if the case is glued and cannot be opened. You will need a lot of time here, as you can only work on the loudspeaker housing by hand in many places.
  6. In order to emphasize the grain of the wood again, you should then apply a wood glaze to the loudspeaker housing. If possible, work with a foam roller. They make the result more even than with a brush.
  7. When this glaze has dried, all you have to do is apply the varnish. You should also do this with a foam roller. Your speaker cabinet should now look like new again. You now have to reinstall your speakers and your speaker is ready for use again.
