Coffee machines with pods are a practical invention - if only the pods that came with them weren't that expensive. But be careful: There are two ways you can make your own coffee pods and save a lot of money.

Refillable pods for coffee machines reduce costs

Since there have been coffee machines with pads, brewing coffee in the morning has been a breeze: fill up the water, insert the pad, press a button and the coffee is ready within half a minute. The disadvantage of these machines, however, is that the coffee pods, unlike normal filter coffee, are quite expensive. Morning coffee can quickly become very expensive, especially for coffee junkies. But it can also be done more cheaply by simply using refillable coffee pods.

  1. Get refillable pads that will fit in your coffee makers. They don't have to be branded pads - universal pads will in most cases too.
  2. Open the lid of the pod and pour in as much coffee as you want. Be careful not to add too much coffee powder, because the lid has to be put back on, of course.
  3. Close the pad again and check that there is no coffee powder on the outside that could clog the machine. Coffee machines with pads are sometimes quite sensitive when powder gets into the channels.
  4. Use the filled coffee pod like a conventional one from a store.
  5. Make your own coffee pod - instructions

Make your own coffee pods with tea filters

Is there for your coffee machine Even if you don't buy fillable pads, you don't have to spend a lot of money on finished ones. With a little crafting, you can make your own tea filter pads.

  1. Using a compass, draw a circle the size of a coffee pad on a piece of cardboard and cut out the template.
  2. For a coffee pod, use the template to draw two circles on each of the tea filters and cut them out.
  3. Place the two circles on top of each other and iron over the edges at a high temperature so that they melt together. Leave a small opening open for filling.
  4. With the help of the funnel, fill the coffee through the remaining opening and then iron the small hole over as well.
