How to properly perform an ear irrigation
- Take a 20 ml syringe and fill it with lukewarm water.
- Put the syringe in your ear and push the water into your ear with pressure. The ear is rinsed out and the dirt rinsed out. You may have to repeat this process several times, if necessary also change the angle of the syringe so that you can really get to every point.
- If the dirt is very stuck, you can put a drop of olive oil in your ear and let it work for about 15 minutes. This loosens the dirt and makes it easier to rinse out.
- If no dirt comes out, you need to see an audiologist. Either the dirt is so stuck that it cannot be rinsed out or it is not dirt but an ear infection that makes you harder to hear.
- Under no circumstances should you try to push the syringe too deep into your ear, you could injure your eardrum!
- Do an ear irrigation yourself only if you have an intact eardrum. People with a defective eardrum need to see a doctor for cleaning!
