Databases are not only created by Access. You can also create databases using SQL when you create a website. The files themselves can be easily opened at any time.

Open a SQL file

If you have received an SQL file, you can open it with the Wordpad:

  1. Right-click the file and choose "Open With". a window is opening. This suggests a program with which the SQL file can be opened.
  2. If this is not the case, you can click on the small arrow on the right and then select "Wordpad". To open SQL files permanently with this program, check the box below for "Always open file type with this program". You can then open the SQL file like any other by double-clicking it.

Open the database with Access

  1. To open a SQL file in Access, first start the database program "Access". You can find this under "Start" in the Mincrosoft-OfficePrograms.

  2. Then click on "Import" in the "File" menu. A small window will now open where you can select the SQL file. Click on "Open". The SQL file is then imported and displayed.
  3. Most of the time, the database is not output correctly, so you have to switch to the SQL view first. To do this, click on the symbol with the ruler and pencil (edit) above and select "SQL view".
  4. This opens the SQL file as it is stored as a database on a server. You can also change or adapt the file here as you wish. To do this, switch back to edit mode by reactivating "Design view".
