How to dispose of used oil correctly

  • Store the different fluids separately (used oil, brake fluid ...) and indicate which fluids are involved when disposing of them.
  • As long as you collect the used oil before returning it, you must keep the containers tightly closed so that it does not accidentally get into the environment.
  • Used oil is not suitable for domestic use - for heating, for example. Also, do not use it to protect wooden beams; these must then be disposed of as hazardous waste.
  • Vegetable oils, such as those in the kitchen are disposed of in small quantities in the residual waste bin.

Clear used oil can usually be filtered and cleaned for reuse. Dark waste oil (e.g. motor oil) is heavily contaminated and is burned to recover the energy it contains.
