For many, agriculture is a book with seven seals. For most of them, cultivating is not a term at all. What it is about and what it is used for is therefore more than interesting.

Cultivators - general information

  • Cultivating is an agricultural technique in which a cultivator is used to work the soil without turning it.
  • This is used, among other things, to control weeds, to incorporate humus and to loosen and crumble the soil. There are also a number of other tasks that can be mastered with the cultivator.
  • There are different versions of the cultivator equipment. The cultivator, for example (also called spring tine cultivator) loosens up a field that has already been plowed. If the soil is heavily compacted (for example after rainfall or the winter season), a harrow can no longer penetrate the soil.
  • The cultivator is also used when an agricultural area is to be fertilized. Here, however, a wide-toothed cultivator is required in order to be able to work in the fertilizer.
  • In addition, the farmer can also cultivate if he wants to bring in the seeds. Here the cultivator tears up the top layer of soil and loosens it.

Equipment in agriculture - an overview

In addition to the cultivator, there are also a large number of attachments that are used for cultivating fields.

  • The harrow is mainly used to control weeds and loosen the top layer of soil. Due to the small spacing of the tines, a finer crumbling is achieved than with a cultivator.
  • Another tool used in agriculture is the plow. This is available in a wide variety of designs, from the plow with slatted bodies to the mounted four-blade reversible plow to the bed plow, everything is possible. However, all plows have the task of not only loosening the soil, but turning it. This is especially necessary after the harvest, for example to plow straw stubble.
