Work with the brakes, accelerator and clutch

What looks so easy to normal drivers almost leaves some learner drivers in despair. When approaching a switching vehicle, it becomes clear whether the learner can use the brakes, accelerator and clutch correctly. The following explains how you should handle the three components when starting your truck.

  • First, you practice starting off on a straight stretch of road, preferably on some kind of traffic training area. When you get in, you should adjust the seat so that you can comfortably reach all three floor pedals with your feet. Don't forget to buckle up and align all mirrors with you.
  • Then check that the handbrake is on and that the car is idling. Then start the car. In order to engage a gear, you have to fully depress the clutch pedal (far left) and use the gear lever to engage first gear.
  • After the gear has been engaged, release the handbrake and slowly release the clutch pedal. While the clutch pedal is coming slowly, apply a little gas (right pedal). When the action is, the vehicle should actually move forward.
  • Then when you want to stop again, you should shift your foot from the accelerator to the brake (pedal in the middle), and when Brakes you should hit the clutch.
  • Start off quickly - this is how you practice it

So that you do not become a walking obstacle to traffic, you should quickly and quickly ...

If the interplay between brakes, clutch and accelerator is working properly, you shouldn't have any difficulty in getting started with a gearshift truck.

How to start in the mountains

The interaction between accelerator, brake and clutch is put to a tough test when it comes to starting up on a steep slope. Even experienced drivers sometimes reach their limits here, but it is very easy.

  • When moving off, press the clutch again and accelerate. Leave the handbrake on until you notice how the car is about to move when you let go of the clutch. You will feel that the car is pushing forward, but the handbrake is holding it back.
  • When you feel that the car is about to move, slowly release the handbrake and simply drive off with the same throttle. If you manage to set off on the mountain without jerking too much, then the interaction between the accelerator, clutch and brake is just right.

If you ever run out of car while starting up, don't worry about it, just keep practicing until it works.
