A hyacinth glass is useful and decorative at the same time. It is ideal for hyacinths in the room because you can use the Onions suspend already in late autumn. Even in late winter or early spring, the flowers give off their seductive scent in your home - earlier than any onion planted in the garden.
Onion flowers in a hyacinth jar look interesting because through the jar you can also see the roots that are invisible in normal pots. You can use hyacinth glasses not only for hyacinths, but also for other bulb flowers.
Such hyacinth glasses are available in garden shops in many designs. You can also look around at flea markets. In principle, it differs from other glasses only in its shape.
It has a diameter the same as the onion at the top and a narrowing below it. In this way, the onion does not fall to the ground and does not come into contact with the water. If you already have a similarly shaped glass with a narrower center or a glass vase, you can use this too.
Growing hyacinths in a jar - instructions
All you need is a suitable glass, a good hyacinth bulb, and water. You can safely leave flower pots and soil in the cellar.

- Beginning in November. Buy good hyacinth bulbs in autumn. Garden and hardware stores offer the Early bloomer now on. It is best to start brewing in a glass as early as November.
- Prepare the onions. Remove any loose peels from the onions and try the fit in the glass.
- Fill the glass correctly. Put enough water in the hyacinth jar so that there is a small space between the water and the bulb. The onion soil with the already recognizable roots should not touch the water directly, as it can rot.
- Choose location. Put the glass in a dark and cool room, preferably in the basement. Small onion hats made of thin cardboard have also proven effective for darkening.
- Roots are formed. The onion will begin to take root in the next few weeks. These soon reach the water and later even the glass floor.
- Control growth. During this time, check the water level regularly and top up with a little water if necessary.
- Be patient a little. After two to three months, strong roots will have formed down to the bottom of the jar. You can also see a shoot (often with no inflorescence).
- Place the glass on the windowsill. Now put the glass without a cover on a light window sill. The hyacinth will soon begin to bloom there.
Easier than you thought: with the right glass and a little care, you can coax its fragrant flowers out of the onion bloomer in the room.
