In spring the mosquito season starts again and at the latest when summer is approaching, you can no longer save yourself from annoying pests in the air. Swarms of mosquitoes strike especially in the evening. Ventilating at night or leaving the window open during the day can quickly trigger nasty mosquito bites. It is therefore worth installing a fly screen early in the year.

What you need:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Polyester netting
  • Self-adhesive Velcro tapes
  • Tape measure
  • scissors

Both the fly nets and the Velcro tape are part of a standard fly screen set.

  1. Open the one to be prepared window clean the frame thoroughly. For example with alcohol or cleaning gasoline, it is important to make the frame free of grease, otherwise the adhesive of the Velcro will not stick.
  2. Measure the height and width of the window with a tape measure, then cut the required lengths from the Velcro strips. This is not absolutely necessary, you can also start gluing at one end of the frame and then cut it off as needed.
  3. Remove the protective film from the Velcro tape and carefully stick the Velcro tape into the inner frame of the window.
  4. Place the fly screen on the top of the window edge and press it firmly onto the Velcro strip. Slightly stretch the grille downwards and also press it onto the Velcro strip at the lower edge.
  5. Attach mosquito repellent to the window - this is how it works

As soon as the warm season has begun, insects and especially mosquitoes buzz around at night ...

  6. Proceed on the left and right according to the same principle, slightly tighten the grille and press it onto the Velcro strip.
  7. Now you can cut off the protruding remnants of the fly screen on the sides with scissors. If the mosquito net doesn’t fully adhere to the Velcro tape in some places, you can tap it into place with a hard object (e.g. a hairbrush).
  8. In most cases, the mosquito net can later be removed from the Velcro tape and you can attach it again after a wash.

In addition to the fly screen described here, there are also versions that are attached with a separate frame and thus function as a second door. The procedure here is much more complicated and varies from model to model.
