The verveine lemon bush originally from South America, also lemon scent bush or lemon verbena called, is not only known as a salad addition or to season mushroom dishes, but above all as a tea popular. Fresh leaves of the lemon bush are poured over with boiling water and after about half an hour make a health-promoting and refreshing tea. Dried leaves, on the other hand, only last five to ten minutes.

How to properly prepare dried verveine tea

  • The refreshing, lemon-scented verbenatea is obtained from the whole leaves of the lemon bush. Since it originally comes from South America and cannot be found in Central Europe, the tea is usually imported in a dried form. This does not harm the quality of the verveine tea, as all the essential oils are also retained in the whole dried leaves.
  • The tea is easily prepared with boiling waterpoured over the leaves. You can remember ten to twelve leaves (equivalent to around two grams of tea) in one liter of water. The tea then has to steep for five to ten minutes in the dried form.

  • Fresh leaves are only very rarely available in organic stores or health food stores.
    If fresh leaves are used, they can also simply be infused with boiling water, but then have to steep for about half an hour until the tea is ready.
  • The fresh leaves can, however, also be boiled directly with the water, which improves the taste intensified, and then, after simmering, you have to continue brewing for about ten minutes until the tea is ready is.
