No measuring cup at hand

You urgently need to bake or cook something, but there is no measuring cup to be found far and wide? This doesn't have to be a problem if you resort to a few alternatives.

Measure liquids - no measuring cup is no problem

  • If you don't have a measuring cup on hand, you should first take a look in the cupboard. Drinking glasses often have a printed mark, such as 4 cl or 0.4 l for a capacity of 400 ml. These are suitable for easily measuring milliliters.
  • Even if the drinking glasses do not have a printed fill level, you can rely on standard sizes. A normal wheat beer glass or a large beer glass, for example, holds half a liter.
  • In addition to glasses, empty drinking bottles are also suitable; Tetra packs or beverage cans for measuring liquids - you are guaranteed to find quantities on them.
  • You will also find cups in the cupboard. A normal tea cup holds about 180 ml, a normal coffee mug about 250 ml.
  • When it comes to smaller amounts, tablespoons help. Six tablespoons make about 100 ml - but be careful, this only applies to liquids.

Flour, sugar and the like - measure solid ingredients

Sugar, salt, flour, and other solid ingredients can be difficult to measure if you don't have a measuring cup or kitchen scale. But it is not impossible.

  • If you still have this, use the original packaging. Assume the full level on this and mark half, quarter and eighth on the packaging with a pen.
  • If the packaging is no longer available, you can also fall back on a teacup here. Fill up to the brim with 100 g flour, 150 g sugar or 200 g salt.
  • And the tablespoon can also be of use again. About 9 g of powdered sugar or starch, 10 g of flour, 15 g of sugar and 20 g of salt fit on it.

Tip: The lighter a solid ingredient, the fewer grams you have in the cup or on the spoon. The same goes for the degree of grain. Larger gaps are created for light, coarse-grained foods. Just 60 g of oat flakes but uncooked 120 g fit in a cup rice.
