Determine your individual size
The shoes should have enough space so that they can be parked without hindrance. can be removed. The shoes do not have to be fully extended on a floor, but they do have to be supported enough so that they remain secure. Therefore, for the available sizes, calculate a depth of approx. 70% of its length. To make the whole thing look elegant, you can design the front of the shoe rack at an angle. The large shoes on the bottom, wide bottoms and the small shoes on top on the narrow ones. The distance between the floors should be 20 cm. An extra floor with more height must be planned for boots.
The appropriate material
If you know how big the shelf should be, you have roughly determined the material requirements. A sketch is helpful. You need two frames for the front and back walls. Plus the struts on which the shoes stand, i.e. 2 pieces per floor. To stabilize the frame, there are 2 struts on the back, which run diagonally crosswise. They can consist of weak strips. If you want the shoe rack to stand freely in the room, we recommend adding a back wall. Then you don't always have to meticulously place the shoes to make it look neat. Look at the hardware store for an approx. 5mm thick press material for this and the diagonal bracing is no longer necessary.
How to construct the shoe rack
It makes sense to make the front frame about 5cm smaller than the rear one. This means the shoes are slightly angled, are easier to see and can evaporate easily. It is best to use planed structural wood measuring 40 x 20 mm or similar.
- Screw the back and front frames together. You should have already determined the width and height of the frames.
- Then screw on the crossbars in the required number at a distance of 20 cm.
- Start 5cm higher on the rear frame.
- If a rear wall is to be installed, connect the two frames with two side pieces each that protrude 4cm at the back. The back wall is screwed on there.
- In the same way, you can also use the protruding wood to fix your shelf to the wall. All you need is 2 simple brackets and 8 suitable screws Wood.
- If you want something classy, you can let the side timbers protrude to the front and attach vertical strips to them. A window blind can be attached to discreetly hide the shoes. Then you should coordinate the size beforehand!
