What do you need for a cool mud kitchen?

To make the DIY mud kitchen a real fun factor and a new favorite toy in the garden, there are a few things that shouldn't be missing.

The basic structure of the mud kitchen is made of a robust, weatherproof material. Pallets or wooden boxes such as fruit or wine boxes are best suited for this. The play kitchen should have enough work space so that all children have space to play and make mud. The heart of the children's kitchen is a sink that... Water is filled from the garden.

On the back wall of the mud kitchen you can attach hooks on which the various kitchen utensils can be hung. There should also be enough storage space under the work surface to neatly stow away pots, watering cans or sandpit molds after mudding.

Step-by-step construction instructions

These do-it-yourself building instructions show you how you can easily build a mud kitchen in 4 steps for great fun in the garden.

Cutting pallets

To build the play kitchen you need three Euro pallets. Cut two Euro pallets and this is how it works.

Make a kaleidoscope - this is how you can make a children's toy

Almost every adult had the opportunity to make a kaleidoscope or...

  1. Place the pallet on a flat surface and measure 40 cm inwards from the right side.
  2. At this point you only saw through the top boards of the Euro pallet parallel to the short side.
  3. Now turn the pallet over so that the top rests on the floor.
  4. Then saw through the pallet with a jigsaw to the right of the middle wooden bar, 52.75 cm from the edge. This will give you two asymmetrical wooden pieces.
  5. Saw the second pallet accordingly by now measuring 40 cm inwards from the left edge and also sawing through the underside to the left of the middle wooden bar 52.75 cm from the edge
  6. Treat all edges with sandpaper to make it absolutely splinter-free for your children.

Screw the pallet construction together

  1. Place the third pallet, which is not sawn, on the long side with the top facing away from you.
  2. Place the longer parts of the sawn pallets on the outside of the pallet so that their edges meet flush.
  3. Connect the three crossbars on both sides with brackets, which are then attached to the inside.
  4. Additionally screw the play kitchen from the outside using suitable wood screws.

Saw the support foot

  1. Saw a foot out of the remaining offcuts from the pallets, which will later be placed in the middle at the front between the outer walls of the pallet construction.
  2. Alternatively, you can also use a wooden fruit box of the appropriate height.
  3. If the fruit crate is too low, simply screw a piece of wood to it to reach the required height of 47.25 cm.

Attach worktop

  1. Cut an installation board to the dimensions 68 cm x 118 cm and place it on the middle wooden bars of the right and left walls. If necessary, leave the plate Cut to size at a hardware store.
  2. Attach the base made from leftover pallets or the wooden fruit crate in the middle under the table top to give it stability.
  3. Use a cordless jigsaw to cut a suitable hole for the sink. When sawing, take the position of the footrest into account.
  4. A suitable vessel is e.g. b. an enamel bowl or a stainless steel food bowl. A plastic bowl also works, but it is not sustainable.
  5. If the height of the work surface is too low for your child, screw another pallet under the mud kitchen to raise it.
  6. Screw the worktop to the side panels.

Extras for the match kitchen

Add more functionality to the mud kitchen by attaching hooks or a hook rack to the back wall. These can be used to hang cups, molds or other kitchen utensils. Place old round trivets or round scraps of wood on the countertop to serve as hotplates for cooking. Round, smaller wooden discs are great as control buttons. You can build a shelf under the work surface from leftover pieces of wood. These can even be fitted with a door so that there is more storage space for the little chefs. With a shelf and a horizontally opening door, the shelf becomes an oven in the children's kitchen. You can also make a roof for the mud kitchen using leftover wood or fabric. Paint the DIYKitchen with weatherproof paint and give it the finishing touch. You can also do this together with your children.

A mud kitchen is the dream of many children. With our construction instructions you can also build them yourself from pallets and make children's dreams come true.
