French fries don't always have to be greasy. Crispy and delicious fries can be easily prepared in the hot air fryer, even without oil. We show you how it works.

time and temperature

There is a rule of thumb for a standard frozen fries package (750 grams). This means that your fries will be optimal after 24 minutes in the hot air fryer at 180 °C. To do this, heat your hot air fryer to the required temperature and then put the fries in the device.

However, keep in mind that not every air fryer is the same. Most hot air fryers have an output of 1400 to 2100 watts and a volume of 1.5 to 2 liters. Depending on the performance, the cooking time can be shortened or extended individually.

The time given therefore serves as a rough guideline. Always do a visual check the first time you do it and find the perfect time for your hot air fryer.

Get moving!

The differences between hot air fryers are not just in performance and capacity. Slightly more expensive models have a stirring arm that causes the fries to move while they are being heated. This mixing arm is very practical because you don't have to mix your fried food yourself.

Moving your fries is important so that even browning can occur. Frozen fries can stick together and therefore still have light spots after heating.

Make your own fries in the pan - that's how they get crispy

Don't have a deep fryer where you can make your own fries? With these instructions it works...

If you have a cheap hot air fryer without a stirrer arm, you can still find a solution. To do this, you should mix your fries with a suitable stirrer 10 minutes after the start of the frying process. For hot air fryers with drawers, you can also pull them out and shake them up a bit.

This makes it particularly tasty

Many frozen fries already contain enough fat, which is why adding more is not actually necessary. But fat is known to be a flavor carrier. A little extra cooking oil can improve the taste of your fries. To do this, you can add a small splash of oil suitable for frying, for example refined sunflower oil or rapeseed oil, to the deep fryer.

More expensive hot air fryers have an oil distributor that is perfect for this. Alternatively, you can have your fries beforehand Deep frying brush with cooking oil.

Are frozen air fryer fries healthier?

Frozen fries that have been prepared in the hot air fryer or in the oven contain around 6% fat (without added oil) and have around 175 kcal per 100 g. When frying, the fries absorb around 6 - 12% of frying oil. This means that fried fries have a fat content of at least 12%. With fried fries you can expect an energy content of 230-300 kcal. Frozen fries from the hot air fryer are definitely the lower-energy option.

A higher fat or energy content in food is not always classified as “unhealthier”. Since frying fat is mainly saturated fatty acids, fries from the hot air fryer are definitely the “healthier” fries.

However you like your fries, we hope you enjoy your meal!
