How do you spell "furthermore"?

In fact, all three spellings, i.e. lowercase and combined, were once correct. The German spelling, orthography has, however, already changed more frequently and with it the spelling of "furthermore".

Since 1996 only the spelling "beyond" is correct. This is because the adjective "further" is nouned (i.e. it is made a noun) and therefore must be capitalized (German spelling rule D 72).

So you don't have to remember any special exceptions or cases where you have to use one or the other spelling, just that only one, namely "furthermore", is correct.

Why do you capitalize "furthermore"?

The nominalization of the word "further" is the reason for capitalizing "furthermore". Usually, in its function as an adjective, "further" is of course written in lower case. Here is an example sentence:

As a nominalized or substantiated adjective in which it becomes a noun, it is capitalized, as is the case with "further". Here is the word in a different context:

"Furthermore" is particularly common at the beginning of sentences. Because it is used, especially in formal, standard-language texts, to create a connection between sentences. So it is used when a new but related idea is expressed. Of course, it can also appear after a comma in the middle of a sentence.
