Create a set square to measure the angle
How do you have to create a set square to measure an angle correctly? This task actually consists of three steps: Place the set square over (!) The angle - choose the right scale - read the value.
1. Place the set square correctly
As with other measuring tasks, when measuring angles it is important to place the measuring equipment (in this case the set square) correctly on the angle. For this, the triangle must cover the angle over the entire area. You have to place the long side of the triangle on one side of the angle. Also make sure that the middle (in the illustration by a pencil marked!) of the long side of the triangle (i.e. the zero of the length scale) with the vertex of the Angle matches. By the way: The small round protractors also work like this.
2. Select the correct scale on the set square
As you have probably noticed, there are two counter-rotating scales for the angular dimensions on your set square. It is now very important to select the correct (read: valid) scale when measuring the angle. Basic rule: Always use the scale that starts with "zero" when you put it on the leg. You have to measure the angle from this line.
3. Measure the angle value, i.e. read it off correctly
Have you selected the correct scale for the measurement? Then you don't really need to do much anymore: Walk along the scale until you hit the second leg of the angle and read off the appropriate angle value. Perhaps one more special feature: angles over 180 ° cannot be measured "in one go", the scale is simply not sufficient. So divide up 180 ° beforehand and measure the rest according to the procedure described.
