Eponyms are relatively common in medicine. This is because many innovations in this area have been named after their discoverer.
Eponyms come from personal names
If a person invents something great and the whole world or at least parts of it will need this invention in the future, then a name has to be found for it. If people are the namesake, the eponym is called.
- Eponyms are particularly useful if the inventor has a catchy name that can actually be pronounced for most people.
