GIMP ("GNU Image Manipulation Program") is an image editing program with which you can easily but professionally your pictures edit or create your own graphics.

  • Its structure and function are similar to “Adobe Photoshop“, But has the great advantage that the program is freeware - that is, free of charge software - acts.
  • Nevertheless, all standard tools are available for an effective one image editing to disposal. For example, you can select areas with a magic wand or by color, use various painting tools such as brushes and airbrushes, or rotate, crop or mirror your image.
  • In addition, GIMP offers you numerous filters and effects such as "Sharpen", "Blur" or "Use light effects" to give your pictures that special touch afterwards. You can download many other filters for free from the Internet and integrate them into the GIMP.

With the free image editing program Gimp you can not only ...

  1. Start the GIMP.
  2. Open any picture. To do this, go to “File” in the “File” menu or press the key combination CTRL + O (O stands for “Open”).
  3. Go to the folder where the picture is located. Select the picture with the left mouse button and either double-click on it or click on "Open".
  4. The image is then loaded into the editing area. You can now change the picture as you wish.
  5. As soon as you have finished editing, click on “Save As” in the “File” menu or press the key combination SHIFT + CTRL + S.
  6. A small window will open. Enter a different filename if you want and select a location.
  7. The simplest method of saving the picture as a JPG file is to change the file extension to “jpg” after the file name (for example, there could be “png” before).
  8. Alternatively, you can click on "Select file type" and then select "JPEG". The file extension in the upper area will then change. Click on "Save".
  9. Another window appears in which you can specify the quality of the image, among other things. You should increase this to 100 percent to avoid losses.
  10. Click on “Save” again. GIMP will then save the image in the location you specified. You can then close the GIMP.
