Make e-book covers out of books
Some swear by the good, old, printed book, others can no longer imagine their reading pleasure without an e-book. If you also get a little sentimental at looking at classic books, you can be old and combine new things practically and your electronic reading material in a personal cover enjoy. With browsing or your favorite novel, you can easily create this protection yourself.
What you need:
- a book
- Elastic band or hardskin cover
- Clear varnish or napkin glue
- adhesive
- Craft knife
- large paper clips
A shell made of books
You can recycle the book covers of old treasures into an envelope for your e-book reader. The kicker: when you read your electronic books, it will look like you are reading a printed book.
- Select a book with which you want to tinker your protective cover. Please note that the book should be a little bigger than your e-book. The spine of the book must also be slightly wider than the depth of the device. Due to the unstable cardboard cover, do not use paperback books.
- Remove the book pages by carefully cutting them out with a craft knife. With older books, the stuck areas come off very easily, so you can often carefully tear the pages out.
- To make the cover more resistant to dirt and drops, we recommend painting the outside with a clear varnish or napkin glue.
- Measure the edges of the open book and cut a piece to match felt in any color. You glue this on the inside of the book cover. The felt will later protect the device from abrasion and scratches. Alternatively, you can use similarly soft textile materials.
- The only thing missing from your protective cover is a secure attachment for your e-book reader.

Keep the e-book in a safe place
You can choose between two mounting options for book covers:
- On the one hand, loops are suitable, which you lay out from about a centimeter wide elastic band and glue diagonally in the four corners on the inside of the back cover. The loops should not be too big and should be attached as far outside as possible so that the device sits tightly in the case and the screen is not covered. This requires a lot of patience, trying out and adapting. Oversized paper clips help you to fix and test the rubber loops before gluing.
- Attachment is much easier if you buy a hardskin cover made of rubber or plastic for your device and glue it to the inside of the spine. In this way, the e-book is particularly well protected between the book covers.
In order to keep the book locked in bags or rucksacks on the go, a closure made of a knotted elastic band is an additional option.
