What you need:

  • Consignment slip
  • Ident number

How to safely hand in your DHL parcel

  • In any case, use the original DHL parcel label to address the recipient. Make sure that you also hand in the parcel as a "parcel" and not as a "parcel". Parcels are more expensive in terms of postage, but are automatically insured for up to 500 euros if the shipment does not arrive.
  • Write the address very legibly in the appropriate recipient field. It is best to use block letters in capital letters. If the DHL scanners cannot read your handwriting, such parcels are sorted out by hand and put aside for the time being. Such a package can sometimes be forgotten and not reach the recipient.
  • Pack your DHL package carefully. If the packaging is damaged during transport, the parcel card can also be destroyed and become illegible. To be on the safe side, put a duplicate address with your sender information in the DHL package. In this way, the parcel can be forwarded manually.

If the package did not arrive

If a parcel has not arrived at the recipient after a period of 3 working days, you must investigate where the parcel has gone.

  • Contact the recipient. Ask him to look through all the mail again to see if there is a DHL notification card with it. The DHL delivery man is obliged to leave such a notification if he has not found the recipient at home and has taken the package back with him.
  • DHL shipment tracking with parcel number - this is how it works

It's a great thing that parcels that have been sent can be tracked online. Though …

  • The same applies if the DHL delivery man has delivered your package to the neighbor. Even then, he must notify the recipient of this.
  • Alternatively, the recipient can, of course, also ask the immediate neighbors without a notification card.
  • As the sender, you received a posting slip when the package was posted at DHL. A unique identification number is printed on this certificate. On the Internet at the DHL homepage By entering this identification number, you can always check where your parcel is or whether it has arrived.
  • If the track of the parcel is lost or can no longer be found, you as the sender can request an investigation from DHL. The best thing to do is to go to the nearest DHL branch and take your posting slip with you. There you have to fill out a form and also precisely describe the content of the shipment. Then DHL will try to find the package that has not arrived.
  • If DHL is to blame for the fact that a package did not arrive, they must reimburse you for the value of the package up to 500 euros.
