Retrofitting the trailer coupling on the Grande Punto
You can retrofit a tow bar on a Grande Punto if you want to use the vehicle to pull a trailer. However, please note that the trailer loads are quite low for the vehicle.
If you want to buy a Grande Punto, you usually don't have one trailer hitch. With a trailer load of 1,000 kilograms on an incline of up to 12 percent and a braked trailer, you cannot move large loads. If your trailer does not have its own brake, the load is reduced to 400 kilograms. This is regardless of whether you drive the Grande Punto as a three- or five-door model.
Order the towbar for the Grande Punto
- You can retrofit a clutch on your Fiat at any time. Order them directly from your dealer or on the Internet. The vehicle registration document should be available so that the correct coupling is delivered.
- Choose between a rigid and a detachable coupling. The rigid model protrudes permanently from under the bumper, while you only use the removable version when you really need it. This has the advantage that your vehicle looks better.
The installation can be done by yourself
- Remove the rear bumper and expose the floor pan from the inside. In this you will find markings that you need to pierce. The trailer coupling is attached to them.
- Depending on the model, you may need to make an incision in the bumper. Since this can look unsightly, you should find out before buying whether it is possible to get a model that does not require such an incision.
- Screw the coupling to the base plate. Make sure you tighten the bolts sufficiently. You can then attach the bumper to the vehicle again - sometimes with the necessary cutout. Before you drive with a trailer for the first time, you should go to the TÜV. Installation directly before a general inspection is due, because it saves time and money.

If you have installed a trailer coupling without a registration requirement, you must carry the ABE with you permanently.
