Renew the Android version on the smartphone

  • When an update is available for your version of Android, your smartphone will usually notify you automatically. However, this feature can be turned off and you may miss updates.
  • But even if you don't want to be kept informed about updates automatically, it is advisable to check for them manually every now and then. On the Samsung Galaxy S2 does this through the settings. Select the sub-item "Telephone info", then "Software update" and then "Update". If a new Android version is available, you can update your smartphone under this menu item.

Update via the PC

Major updates with many new functions and improvements sometimes only work via the PC connection. So you should get your AndroidSmartphone Connect every now and then and check for updates. However, updates via the PC are also useful if you do not have WLAN available at the moment.

  • Every smartphone manufacturer has its own synchronization software for the PC. At Samsung this is called Kies. So in order to connect your Samsung smartphone to the PC, the first thing you need to do is Kies download, preferably directly on the Samsung homepage.
  • If you have already installed Kies on your PC for a long time, it is advisable to double-check that you have the latest version of the synchronization software before updating your mobile phone. To do this, open Kies. If the version is out of date, you will automatically be asked to update it.

  • Now connect your smartphone. If you haven't opened Kies yet, do so now.
  • Under the item "Firmware information" you can now see whether your smartphone is up to date. If not, you can download the update at this point and install it on your device.
  • But be careful: you should always make a backup copy before updating, as there is a risk of data being lost during the update. This also works via Kies, namely via the "Backup / Restore" tab.
