Tailor a sheepskin vest yourself
Sheepskin keeps you very warm and is an excellent material to use to tailor a vest yourself. You can then wear your new garment with jeans and warm boots. There are numerous ways to put your new piece of clothing in the limelight.
What you need:
- sewing machine
- scissors
- Sewing thread
- Sheepskin sewing needles
- Pins
- Lining fabric
- satin
How to make a vest out of sheepskin
- You can make a vest out of a sheepskin if you cut the back piece first. It should be 50 by 60 cm.
- The front of your resulting vest should then be 25 by 60 cm. Cut this out too.
- Now a front piece is placed on the left side of the back piece and the side seam is sewn together at the hem. However, this seam does not go all the way to the top, but should only be 30 cm long. This work is best done with a sewing machine. This way the seam stays nice and tight and you don't have to touch it up later.
- sew The right side of the sheepskin at the hem with the back together. The seam is also only 30 cm long. This will be done in a few minutes.
- Sew both pieces together at the top of the shoulder. The seam should be approx. 16 to 17 cm long.
- Now the neckline has to be made. For this purpose, a mark is drawn on the inside. You use the pins and mark a point 10 cm from the top hem and cut out a round neckline.

Sew in a lining
You can work an extra lining into your sheepskin vest.
- Start by cutting out a back and two fronts as you did with the fur.
- The individual components are now sewn together and sewn to the inside of the garment.
- You can then work in a satin tie belt. It should be approx. be five inches wide and one meter long.
- Sew loops into the inside of the garment that are approx. have twenty cm. You can then pull the belt through the loops.
