Fortresses are numerous in the full version; there are only 3 in the other versions. Since forts are quite large, you can find them through consistent digging.
- Put together a plan according to which you want to find fortresses, to do this you should dig a shaft into the depths.
- For example, dig 30 blocks deep. Go in each direction from that point.
- For example, after 20 blocks, dig to the right and left. If you can't find a fort, dig the first 4 tunnels 20 blocks at a time.
Since fortresses can hardly hide in a block area of only 20x20x20 blocks, you would always have to find a fortress according to this pattern.

Find fortresses with ender eyes
away Minecraft Version Beta 1.9 Pre-Release 3 allows you to find fortresses with ender eyes. It works like this:
- Throw an ender eye from a high point. The ender eye flies 15 blocks diagonally towards the next fortress.
- Then it stops in the air and falls to the ground. There you can pick it up again and throw it again. But sometimes it breaks in midair. So, if you're supposed to find a fortress, you may need several Ender Eyes.
- Keep throwing the ender eye until it behaves slightly differently before it falls to the ground. This happens when it is closer than 20 blocks from the entrance of a fortress. It then flies towards the entrance.
- The entrance is below where the Enderauge hit, so all you have to do is dig there for the fortress you want to find.
In the older versions of Minecraft, you cannot find fortresses with the Ender Eye.
