How to get the latest version of Minecraft
- The automatic update of Minecraft happens as soon as you enter the game via Minecraft.exe and there is an internet connection. The launcher, which asks you to enter your username and password, connects to the download server. After logging in, you will then be asked whether you want to download the new game files. Minecraft.exe then automatically installs the latest version that is publicly available.
- A manual update of the game may be necessary if Minecraft is due to Mods or an interrupted internet connection was installed incorrectly. Of course, you could now delete the entire Minecraft folder and thus force a complete reinstallation, but a manual update can be carried out much faster.
So you can update Minecraft manually
- If you want to update Minecraft manually, you have to remove a certain file from the Minecraft installation folder. This is the "version" file (without the file extension) that you can find in the "bin" subfolder of your Minecraft installation.
- However, since Minecraft is not in the Applications folder of Windows installed, you need to find the installation path manually. The fastest way is to click on the start menu and select the menu item "Run". at Windows Vista or 7 you can optionally use the search field in the start menu.
- Enter in the "Run" or Search field the following sequence of numbers without quotes, but with percent signs: "% appdata%" - you This way they get into the "Roaming" folder, in which many programs have important files administer. You should therefore be particularly careful there and not delete anything unless you know exactly what you are doing!
- One of the sub-folders is called ".minecraft". The dot in front of the actual folder name means that the folder is at the top of the list of displayed folders. Open it and the "bin" subfolder that appears on it. There you will find the mentioned "version" file.
