The seat cushion consists of two felt sheets that are sewn onto one another - either with a sewing machine or by hand with a thick, pointed needle. Since some simple sewing machines have problems with the processing of thicker felt, sewing together by hand is a good idea.
How to sew a felt seat cushion
- Take the two felt sheets. If you have bought a larger sheet of felt, cut out two square pieces of the same size with fabric scissors. Make sure the seat cushions are large enough to fit comfortably on your chairs. If you want to sew a round seat cushion, simply adjust the cut and use two round pieces of felt of the right size.
- Place the two felt sheets on top of each other and sew three of the sides either with the sewing machine or with a decorative chain stitch. It is best to use embroidery floss for this. It becomes even nicer if you use a different colored thread that separates itself from the felt, for example black felt with red thread.
- When you have sewn three sides together, slide the foam sheet through the opening in the seat cushion. The foam shouldn't be too thin, but also not too tight for you to sit comfortably on, and a little smaller than the felt.
- Finally, sew the fourth side of the seat cushion and close it completely. Your seat cushion is ready and you can use it right away.
