Construction of the sewing machine - the first steps

Place your sewing machine on an empty table in front of you. The side with the presser foot is usually on the left side, as the operation of the machines is mostly geared towards right-handed people.

  • Connect the foot pedal and stand under the table.
  • Only then should you insert the plug into the socket.
  • You don't have any thread in the machine yet, i. That is, you can try all things once. But to do this, you should put an old piece of fabric under the presser foot to protect the machine. The presser foot is around the sewing needle.
  • With the piece of fabric resting on the metal plate, you can raise and lower the presser foot using a lever on the rear. Simply put your hand through the recess and operate the lever. To the sew the presser foot must be down for the seam to be just right.
  • Sewing tips for first attempts with the machine

The dream of sewing clothes themselves leads many women to thoroughly ...

  • Make use of the light too. This can be switched on at a different point on each sewing machine, so you should, if necessary, check the instruction manual to find out where the button is.
  • On top of the sewing machine you have small retractable metal rods for the sewing thread. On the right of the machine is the so-called flywheel and the metal plate under the sewing foot can be removed to access the bobbin thread. These 3 things are important for your work on the machine and you should understand the context.

Operating the machine - the next steps in sewing

  1. For the bobbin thread, you need part of your sewing thread on a bobbin that goes under the plate. To get the thread onto the bobbin, you have to lock the flywheel so that it no longer turns.
  2. Place the spool of sewing thread on one of the metal rods and wind the end of the thread around an empty bobbin. The end of the thread can usually be fixed in the edge of the bobbin so that the sewing needle is always fixed. Then put the coil on another metal rod.
  3. And now carefully step on the gas pedal. If you have never done this before, you should try what happens without bobbins. You can let the thread run full on the bobbin without worrying, the sewing machine stops automatically as soon as the bobbin is full. Make sure, however, that you do not give too much gas and that the thread really always hits the bobbin and not off.
  4. Then place the coil in the device under the metal plate, close the plate and release the flywheel from its fixation.
  5. Now turn the flywheel a few times by hand. The needle goes up and down and after a few movements a loop appears from the ground, which you grasp with a needle or the tip of a scissor and pull open. You have now threaded the bobbin thread and ready to work.
  6. Now you still need the upper thread to finally be able to operate the sewing machine. Lead this from the thread spool at the top of the machine through the guides, then down once on the front and back up again - pay attention to the guides there too. Turn the flywheel a little, with the sewing movement a metal device will appear with an eyelet at the front where your thread is now. You thread the thread through this eyelet and then lead it down (note that the thread is also passed through the existing eyelets) to the sewing needle, where you will thread it.
  7. After that, you should practice some test seams on your sample fabric and check the tension of the thread on top of the machine. As soon as something gets tangled anywhere, check that the thread can run freely and that it is taut without being tight. Compare your thread guide with the operating instructions; some machines have one more or less eyelet for the thread path than described here.
  8. Once the top and bobbin threads are working, you're ready to start sewing.
  9. Simply place what you want to sew under the presser foot, lower the presser foot, and gently step on the accelerator pedal.
  10. To prevent the seam from unraveling, you should sew once forwards and backwards at the beginning and end of each seam. The thread is now sewn. Then cut the ends of the thread, raise the presser foot and carefully pull the piece of fabric to the left.
  11. Remember that the bobbin thread is still running, so be careful. Then cut the bobbin thread and check the work. If everything goes wrong, like any beginner sewing, you can't avoid tearing it all up again and starting over.

Good luck and have fun!
